Qualification for the knockout stage will be on the line on Tuesday as England national football team and Ghana national football team seek to advance from Group L, while Portugal national football team search for their first victory of the tournament.

England head into their showdown with Ghana in high spirits after a commanding 4-2 win over Croatia in their opening fixture.

The result strengthened belief within the squad that they can challenge for World Cup glory, with captain Harry Kane scoring twice and Jude Bellingham also getting on the scoresheet.

Midfielder Declan Rice said England’s second-half display against Croatia had set the standard for the rest of the tournament.

“We know as players the level, we know what’s required, and that second-half performance was probably the benchmark for us,” Rice said.

“We believe that if we can do that from the opening minute, we can beat any opponent in the world.”

England coach Thomas Tuchel echoed that confidence but acknowledged the pressure that comes with competing on football’s biggest stage.

“There are emotions involved and you can at some point feel the tension and feel the pressure. I hope we can cope with it, accept it and turn it around,” he said.

Ghana, meanwhile, remain firmly in contention after edging Panama 1-0 in their opening game and can also secure a place in the knockout rounds with victory.

The Black Stars will once again rely on the attacking influence of Antoine Semenyo as they seek to upset one of the tournament favourites.

Ronaldo in Spotlight as Portugal Face Uzbekistan

Attention will also focus on Portugal, who are under pressure to deliver after being held to a 1-1 draw by DR Congo in their first match.

The disappointing result reignited debate over Cristiano Ronaldo’s role in the team after another scoreless outing from the veteran forward.

Despite criticism, Portugal manager Roberto Martinez has continued to publicly support his captain.

“He’s a good example for us, for all of us,” Martinez said.

“So he really wants to keep on improving, to contribute to the team, and he’s really a role model for our team.”

Martinez refused to reveal whether Ronaldo would start against Uzbekistan but stressed that the squad had learned important lessons from the draw.

“The feeling of frustration that we all had as a team, the feeling of disappointment after the game, probably that’s the best starting point to prepare for the next game,” the Portuguese coach said.

Uzbekistan, making their World Cup debut, will enter the encounter as underdogs but will be eager to spring a surprise against one of the competition’s most talented squads.
