Traditional rulers in Delta North have endorsed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for a second term and called on former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to contest the senatorial seat in 2027.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the position was reached at a high-level meeting hosted at the palace of Obi Uche Irenuma II, the Paramount Ruler of Abavo Kingdom.

During the meeting, the monarchs passed a vote of confidence in the governor, applauding his inclusive leadership style and continued support for the State Traditional Rulers’ Council.

They said his administration has improved collaboration between government and traditional institutions while responding effectively to the needs of communities, leading to peace, stability, and development.

Addressing journalists, Obi Irenuma II commended the governor for recognising and supporting traditional rulers across the state.

He made special mention of the vehicles provided to royal fathers, describing the move as a clear sign of partnership and respect for their role in grassroots governance.

He added that the governor has demonstrated a clear understanding of the importance of traditional rulers as critical stakeholders in development and governance.

The monarchs also encouraged Okowa to return to active legislative service by contesting the Delta North senatorial seat.

They based their call on his record of achievements as governor and his continued influence in the district’s growth.

The rulers pointed to accomplishments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and human capital development during Okowa’s tenure.

They noted that his administration delivered visible transformation and laid a strong foundation for sustainable development.

According to them, Okowa’s experience, knowledge of the people’s needs, and legislative background make him well-suited to represent Delta North at the National Assembly.

They added that his return would boost the district’s representation and attract more federal opportunities.
