Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 101-year-old woman, Esther Ogunmabo, for allegedly dealing in cannabis in Ilisan, Ogun State.

Ogunmabo was apprehended on Saturday, August 15, 2026, after NDLEA operatives allegedly found 90 grammes of skunk, a type of cannabis, in her possession. The substance was reportedly packaged in small quantities intended for sale.

NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi said the centenarian admitted selling cannabis to people in the community.

According to Babafemi, Ogunmabo explained that she became involved in the trade after a fire destroyed her provisions shop.

She reportedly told investigators that a daughter living in Lagos regularly supplied her with the substance.

“She said one of her daughters, who resides in Lagos, arranges the supply of the substance to her every four days, which she in turn sold in bits,” Babafemi said.

The arrest formed part of the NDLEA’s latest nationwide operations aimed at disrupting the trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs.

Marwa Orders Bail for Centenarian

Following the development, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), directed that Ogunmabo be granted bail and referred for counselling because of her age.

The agency also confirmed the arrest of the daughter allegedly connected to the supply of the cannabis.

The NDLEA said other operations conducted across the country led to additional drug seizures and arrests at various locations, including Nigeria’s land and maritime borders.

The agency said it would continue its campaign against the cultivation, trafficking, distribution and sale of illicit drugs nationwide.
