Veteran journalist and publisher Dele Momodu has spoken about his longstanding ties to Osun State, insisting that his connection to the state remains strong regardless of who occupies the governor’s office.

Momodu said his relationship with Osun dates back to his childhood in Ile-Ife, where he was born, raised and educated through the master’s degree level.

He said he was born in Ile-Ife on May 16, 1960, three days after Governor Ademola Adeleke, whom he affectionately referred to as his “Twin Brother.”

Momodu explained that his father, Jacob Momodu, moved from Ihievbe in present-day Edo State to Ile-Ife. There, he met Momodu’s mother, who originated from Gbongan Olufi in present-day Osun State.

His parents eventually married, and Momodu said he was the only child of the union.

Describing his parents as “prayer warriors,” he said they instilled in him the principles of love and contentment.

“I had all my education in Ile-Ife, up to a Master’s degree, from 1966 to 1988, with intermittent breaks for different jobs that prepared me for a future of global fame and fortune. Ile-Ife was my rock,” Momodu said.

‘I’m Not in Competition With Anyone’

The publisher said his connection to Osun State should not be viewed through the lens of partisan politics.

“I will forever remain a major stakeholder in Osun State, regardless of whoever is Governor,” he declared.

Addressing his support for Adeleke, Momodu said it was motivated by the governor’s performance and not personal friendship or financial interests.

“I supported Ademola Adeleke, not because he is my friend, or for pecuniary gains, but for the glaring evidence of his superlative performance,” he said.

Momodu dismissed any suggestion that he was seeking recognition for Adeleke’s political achievements.

“Those who wish to claim ownership now are welcome. I’m not in competition with anyone. I’m proud of my glorious heritage,” he said.

He also emphasised that his proximity to influential people had never translated into holding political office.

“I have never been in government or power, despite my uncommon access to men and women of influence. I thank my parents for their love and spiritual fortification. I’m a child of destiny… and I know who I am,” he said.

Message to Wike

Momodu also directed a message at FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, urging him to exercise restraint and warning against measuring life purely through power and wealth.

“Mr Wike, cool temper. Life is not determined only by power and wealth. Remember tomorrow,” he said.

The journalist and founder of Ovations International also highlighted his traditional affiliations across Nigeria and Liberia.

Among the titles he listed are Aare of Iwo Kingdom, Basorun of Oke-Ila Orangun, Akinrogun of Gbonganland, Kiazolu of Grand Cape Mount County of Liberia, Onigege Ara of Jogaland, Ogwanusi of Imeri Kingdom, Ehanikhaye of Ihievbe Kingdom and Onu na Ekwuru Oha 1 of Etiti.
