Nollywood has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.

The 66-year-old actor reportedly passed away at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday after battling cancer.

His daughter, Kira Taiwo, was seen in a widely circulated video breaking down in tears as she announced the tragic news, repeatedly saying, “My daddy is dead.”

Veteran actor Jide Kosoko, in a burial announcement, disclosed that Ogogo would be laid to rest on Monday, August 24, 2026, in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State.

The death came shortly after Kira and her sister, Haleemah, disclosed that their father had been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. The sisters had appealed to the public for support as the family sought possible treatment options.

Ogogo subsequently received a large number of offers of assistance from Nigerians, fellow actors and well-wishers.

Yinka Quadri, a close friend and colleague of the late actor, said more than 300 people — and possibly over 500 — had reached out to the family with offers of help.

Quadri explained in a statement posted on Instagram that managing the numerous offers had become difficult for the family, particularly because they had to determine which forms of intervention could be pursued without disrupting Ogogo’s medical treatment.

Among those who offered support was Ogun State governorship aspirant Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Senator Yayi. He reportedly helped facilitate efforts to obtain specialist medical attention for the actor.

Actress Toyosi Adesanya had also disclosed that Adeola personally reached out to cancer specialists and that Ogogo had been admitted for treatment.

Amid the outpouring of support, however, Ogogo’s daughter Kira alleged that some individuals were attempting to take advantage of her father’s condition.

During an emotional TikTok live session on Saturday, she reportedly accused some people who claimed to be offering assistance of making financial demands while her father was battling cancer.

Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo, was one of the recognised faces of the Yoruba film industry, with a career spanning several decades and a significant contribution to Nollywood.

His death is expected to be deeply felt across the Nigerian film industry, particularly among colleagues and fans of Yoruba-language cinema.
