25 Years of Injustice: Alfa Brothers Move to Court Over Unresolved Inheritance Dispute

The case, once filed, could expose years of mismanagement surrounding the estate of one of Nigeria’s most respected military leaders — a man who served as Chief of Air Staff and as Military Governor of Kaduna State. It also has the potential to set a landmark precedent for inheritance disputes in Nigeria.

Alfa Brothers

Earlier this year, Mustapha Ibrahim Alfa (30) and Rilwan Ibrahim Alfa (29), the youngest sons of late Air Marshal Ibrahim Alfa, went public with claims that their father’s estate had been withheld for over two decades. Despite leaving behind a will after his death in 2000, they alleged that family elders and relatives concealed the document, sold properties, and denied them and their mothers their rightful inheritance.

In their initial appeal, the brothers urged the family to resolve the matter amicably, calling for fairness and transparency in line with justice and Islamic principles. They also withheld names and legal documents at the time, in hopes of a peaceful settlement.

However, months have passed without progress. According to the brothers, the family has failed to engage meaningfully or address their concerns. As a result, they have now resolved to take the matter to court, vowing to pursue justice openly and legally.

“This is no longer just a family issue,” they said. “It is about truth, dignity, and ensuring our father’s legacy is not stained by injustice. Since dialogue has failed, we will let the courts decide.”

The case, once filed, could expose years of mismanagement surrounding the estate of one of Nigeria’s most respected military leaders — a man who served as Chief of Air Staff and as Military Governor of Kaduna State.
