The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 31 individuals suspected of internet fraud after uncovering an alleged cybercrime training facility in Abuja.

The raid, conducted on April 9, 2026, took place at a property in Becki Estate, Karu, in the Federal Capital Territory, which the EFCC described as a “Yahoo Academy” used for training cybercriminals.

The arrested suspects reportedly included two ring leaders and several trainees who were caught during an ongoing session.

During the operation, officers recovered mobile phones, 18 laptops, and other electronic gadgets believed to have been used for fraudulent activities.

Investigations by the EFCC showed that some trainees were brought in from Benue State under the guise of job offers.

However, they were allegedly introduced into cybercrime training programmes and provided with necessary digital tools upon arrival.

The commission also revealed that the recruits were kept within the premises, had their phones seized, and were not allowed contact with the outside world.

It further alleged that disciplinary methods, including physical punishment, were used against those who failed to comply with instructions or resisted training.

The EFCC said the suspects will be prosecuted after ongoing investigations are completed.
