Luis Enrique targets more silverware for PSG as the Champions League holders prepare to face Aston Villa in

SALZBURG — Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has set his sights on another trophy-filled season, declaring that the Champions League holders “want to win everything” ahead of their UEFA Super Cup clash with Aston Villa on Wednesday.

PSG will meet Europa League champions Aston Villa in Salzburg in their first competitive opportunity to add to last season’s impressive collection of trophies.

The Parisian club won their second consecutive Champions League crown last season, alongside their fifth successive Ligue 1 title. They also lifted the UEFA Super Cup, French Champions’ Trophy and FIFA Intercontinental Cup.

Speaking ahead of the match, Luis Enrique said PSG must demonstrate their quality on the pitch rather than rely on their past achievements.

“We have to show what our level is and that has to be shown on the pitch,” the Spaniard told reporters.

“We want to win everything and, if you look at history, it’s hard to win all the time. But that’s what we want to aim for.”

PSG are the defending UEFA Super Cup champions after beating Tottenham in a penalty shoot-out last year.

Their recent encounters with English clubs have also been encouraging, with PSG defeating Aston Villa in a thrilling Champions League quarter-final in the 2024-2025 campaign.

Despite that history, Luis Enrique said he was uncertain about what to expect from Unai Emery’s team because of the limited number of pre-season games he had seen.

“It’s difficult to ascertain how they’ll be after seeing only a few pre-season games,” he said.

“We’ll see what sort of game it will be and what condition both sides will be in.

“Each opponent we’ve faced over the last few years have shown how dangerous they can be. We’re happy about how we were able to play. Our aim is to prove how unpredictable we can be.”

PSG have taken a strong squad to Austria, with winger Bradley Barcola included despite reports linking him with a possible move to Liverpool.

Lucas Digne, however, was not included in the squad. The France left-back returned to PSG from Aston Villa just two days after leaving Villa Park.

Marquinhos, who captains PSG, said he was delighted to see his former teammate return to the club.

“We shared a big hug yesterday. He congratulated me on all that I’ve accomplished at the club and I did the same to him,” Marquinhos said.

The Brazilian defender played alongside Digne during the latter’s first spell at PSG between 2013 and 2016.

“He’s had a long journey back, but I’m so happy he’s back. I’m really happy he’s here. He’s a good guy and a good friend,” Marquinhos added.
