Adeleke: State Police Will Work in Osun

OSOGBO — Accord Party candidate in the Osun State governorship election, Ademola Adeleke, has said he played a role in introducing the concept of state policing in the Senate, insisting that the system would work if adopted in Osun.

Speaking during the Arise Townhall Meeting on Tuesday, Adeleke said his administration would respect the rule of law and ensure that security agencies carry out their responsibilities within the legal framework.

“If you are my son and you break the law, you will go and face the law. I believe in the rule of law. I will make sure state police work in my state. I am not among those that say state police cannot work. It will work,” he said.

On his administration’s infrastructure record, Adeleke said several roads that had been neglected for decades were reconstructed under his government.

According to him, the roads were completed to a high standard and would stand the test of time.

“I have constructed roads abandoned for about 45 years. The roads are superb and clean. They are good roads,” he said.

The governorship candidate also dismissed allegations that he would need to engage in vote-buying to secure victory. He said residents had received palliatives from his administration since he assumed office.

Adeleke alleged that his opponents believed voters could be persuaded with financial inducements, but maintained that the people of Osun would not be easily influenced.

“I don’t need to buy votes. I have been giving my people palliatives since I came in. They believe they can give ₦20,000 and money to voters in Osun. My people are smarter,” Adeleke said.

He also accused his opponents of helping to worsen the state’s economic situation, alleging that they had “crippled Osun State’s economy” and were now attempting to use money to influence voters.

“My people are smarter,” he added.

Despite the political contest, Adeleke said he remained confident of victory and ruled out the possibility of losing the election.

“I will not lose this election. I am confident,” he said.
