Governor Alex Otti has encouraged youths in Abia State to prioritise practical digital skills over paper qualifications as they prepare for opportunities in the global digital economy.

Otti made the remarks while launching TechRise Cohort 3, a three-month advanced digital training programme designed to empower 850 youths in the state.

The governor, represented by Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Prince Uzo Nwachukwu, said the initiative is aimed at producing entrepreneurs, innovators, and employers of labour rather than job seekers alone.

“So do not just look for certificates. Seek deep competence and hands-on problem-solving skills,” he told participants.

“The digital marketing strategies you master here could scale a local business into a multi-national brand.”

Describing TechRise as a strategic investment in the future of Abia youths, Otti noted that rapid advances in automation, artificial intelligence, and digital technologies have made digital literacy a necessity.

“Our goal with Abia TechRise is simple, yet audacious. We want to transform our youth from passive consumers of technology into active creators of digital value,” he said.

The governor disclosed that the administration has partnered with tech hubs and corporate organisations to ensure mentorship programmes, internship placements, and freelance opportunities for participants after the training.

He explained that the beneficiaries would be trained in software development, data analytics, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital marketing, and other in-demand tech skills.

In his remarks, Aba South Local Government Chairman, Hon. Obialo Anyanwu, said the TechRise initiative would empower graduates with advanced digital knowledge needed for self-employment.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Lady Oge Maduka, described the programme themed “AI FIRST” as a bold step towards youth empowerment and innovation-driven development.

According to her, participants would undergo practical industry-focused training in artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, product design, software development, data engineering, and emerging digital technologies.

The CEO of LearnFactory Nigeria and technical coordinator of TechRise, Engineer Chibueze Ukaegbu, also praised the governor for investing heavily in the development of young people in the state.

A participant, Miss Chidera Igwe, expressed appreciation to the governor for the opportunity, saying the programme would help youths improve their knowledge and skills in technology.
