ADC Primary: Amaechi Rejects Results, Accuses Party of Electoral Irregularities

Rotimi Amaechi has dismissed the ADC presidential primary outcome, claiming the process was unfair, lacked transparency, and disenfranchised party members ahead of 2027 elections.

Former Minister of Transportation and presidential hopeful of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has faulted the outcome of the party’s presidential primaries, alleging widespread irregularities and voter exclusion during the exercise.

Amaechi made the remarks in a statement posted on his X platform on Wednesday following the completion of the ADC presidential primary election across the country.

The former Rivers State governor described the announced results as “concocted,” insisting that the process did not reflect democratic principles.

“I unequivocally reject the concocted results being announced,” he declared.

Amaechi said he had previously promised to accept the results only if the election was conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner, stressing that the exercise failed to satisfy those standards.

“I had initially stated that I will only accept the outcome of the primaries if the process was free, fair, and transparent, and I stand by my word,” he said.

According to him, a significant number of party members were denied the opportunity to vote during the primaries.

“There’s no way that about eighty percent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results,” he stated.

Amaechi also accused the ADC leadership of adopting the same practices it often criticizes in the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“A party that criticizes the ruling APC and INEC for vote buying, rigging and writing of results, cannot be engaged in vote buying, writing of results, and other electoral malpractices that lead to the disenfranchisement of voters who are party members,” he said.

He added that the vision behind the ADC was to provide Nigerians with a credible political alternative capable of defending the interests of ordinary citizens.

“The whole idea of the ADC was to give the Nigerian people a platform, to amplify the voices of the downtrodden, and make Nigeria a better place for everyone irrespective of backgrounds, ethnicity, or religion,” Amaechi added.

The development is likely to intensify internal disputes within the ADC as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
