The commissioning of the IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun Conference Hall at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos State, is a remarkable milestone that deserves commendation and national recognition.

This monumental project, whose foundation was laid barely six months ago on November 7, 2025, by the former Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reflects what visionary leadership, institutional commitment, and purposeful policing can achieve within a short time.

The magnificent edifice, named in honour of the former Inspector-General, stands as a testament to his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to the modernization and professionalization of the Nigeria Police Force. It also symbolizes continuity in leadership and the importance of building enduring institutions that can serve future generations of police officers and Nigerians at large.

Conceived as a world-class multipurpose facility, the Conference Centre is expected to serve as a strategic hub for high-level security deliberations, inter-agency coordination, policy engagements, press conferences, and capacity-building programmes. This is not just another structure within a police formation; it is a critical investment in institutional efficiency and operational excellence.

The establishment of the facility reflects the former IGP’s forward-looking agenda aimed at strengthening institutional frameworks and equipping police commands nationwide with facilities and skills that meet global policing standards. At a time when modern policing increasingly demands intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and rapid response mechanisms, such infrastructure becomes indispensable.

However, while the former IGP deserves recognition for initiating the vision, equal commendation must be given to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, whose exemplary leadership and commitment ensured the successful completion and commissioning of the project.

AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh has consistently distinguished himself as a disciplined, result-oriented, and forward-thinking police officer whose administrative excellence and commitment to operational efficiency have remained evident throughout his service years.

During his tenure as Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, he left no room for security gaps to thrive. Under his watch, early warning signs were taken seriously, intelligence gathering was strengthened, and proactive policing became a defining hallmark of the command. It is gratifying that this culture of vigilance and professionalism continues under the current Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani.

One of the enduring legacies of AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh is his strong belief in institutional development beyond conventional policing. His vision for the establishment of a Lagos Police Band further demonstrated his understanding that policing is not only about enforcement but also about building stronger community relations, improving morale, and projecting a positive image of the Force.

His dedication to innovation, discipline, and infrastructural development is highly commendable. These initiatives are vital to achieving a more responsive, technologically driven, and people-oriented Police Force capable of meeting contemporary security challenges.

Indeed, the commissioning of the IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun Conference Hall is more than the unveiling of a physical structure; it is the celebration of visionary leadership, institutional continuity, and the enduring commitment of dedicated officers who believe in building a better Nigeria Police Force.

As Nigerians, we must continue to encourage and celebrate officers like AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh whose passion for service, commitment to professionalism, and investment in lasting institutional reforms continue to inspire confidence in the nation’s security architecture.

The Nigeria Police Force can only become stronger when visionary leaders are supported, celebrated, and encouraged to leave behind legacies that positively impact both the institution and the society it serves.
