Napoli Close to Surrendering Serie A Title After Lazio Loss

Lazio’s 2-0 win over Napoli puts Inter on the brink of the Serie A title, with the defending champions struggling late in the season.

Napoli are on the verge of losing their Serie A crown following a 2-0 defeat at home to Lazio, a result that leaves them 12 points behind leaders Inter Milan with just five games to play.

An early goal from Matteo Cancellieri put Lazio in control, and Toma Basic added a second in the 57th minute to complete a comfortable victory at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Napoli’s title defence could officially end next weekend if they fail to beat Cremonese and Inter defeat Torino, a scenario that would see the Scudetto return to Milan.

The hosts struggled throughout and were fortunate not to concede more, with Lazio’s Mattia Zaccagni missing a penalty in the first half—his first miss from the spot in Serie A.

While the title appears out of reach, Napoli still have a strong chance of securing Champions League football, sitting eight points clear of Como in fifth place.

Elsewhere, Lazio’s convincing display offers encouragement ahead of their Coppa Italia semi-final clash with Atalanta, currently tied 2-2 heading into the second leg.
