The Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Segun Ogunwuyi, has resigned from office, triggering speculation about a possible political shift to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ogunwuyi’s resignation took effect on Monday, October 12, 2026, making him one of several aides to have exited the state government in the past two months.

The development has intensified speculation about political tensions within Makinde’s camp, with sources suggesting that internal disagreements could be linked to the latest departure.

A source familiar with the situation in Oyo State told our correspondent that Ogunwuyi’s resignation had heightened discussions about potential political realignments ahead of the next general elections.

“There have been internal disagreements within the political camp, and Ogunwuyi’s resignation has further fuelled speculation about possible realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.”

The source added: “There are suggestions that he could be considering joining the APC, but we cannot say that definitively at this stage.”

Despite the speculation, Ogunwuyi did not disclose any political disagreement or intention to defect in his resignation letter. There has also been no official confirmation from him or the governor’s office regarding a possible move to the APC.

In the letter dated October 12, 2026, Ogunwuyi formally notified Makinde of his decision to leave the position, stating that his resignation would take immediate effect.

“I respectfully write to resign my appointment as Chief of Staff to the Governor of Oyo State, with effect from today, 12th October, 2026,” he wrote.

He expressed appreciation to the governor for the opportunity to serve and described his experience in the administration as deeply rewarding.

Ogunwuyi ended the letter by reaffirming his commitment to the state and the country.

“Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest esteem and unwavering loyalty to Oyo State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he wrote.

Before his appointment as chief of staff, Ogunwuyi served as a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives.

His exit comes at a politically sensitive period, as the 2027 general elections approach and several political appointees have reportedly left the Makinde administration in recent weeks.

Although his resignation has prompted speculation about a possible defection to the APC, Ogunwuyi’s future political direction remains unclear pending an official statement.
