Iran Offers to Facilitate Dialogue as Houthi-Saudi Tensions Escalate
Iran urges dialogue between Yemen’s Houthis and Saudi Arabia after deadly attacks killed 14 people in two days, raising concerns over regional security.
Iran has voiced concern over intensifying hostilities between Yemen’s Houthi rebels and Saudi Arabia, offering to facilitate dialogue as deadly attacks leave 14 people dead within two days.
Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Tehran was closely monitoring developments in the region and was prepared to support efforts to ease tensions.
“We are deeply concerned about the developments taking place in the Arabian Peninsula,” Baqaei said.
He added that Iran was ready “to help facilitate dialogue between the parties” to prevent further escalation.
The comments came after a Houthi attack on Riyadh’s international airport on Sunday killed one person and wounded 11 others. The strike followed another attack a day earlier that claimed 13 lives, making it the deadliest strike on Saudi soil in more than a decade.
Baqaei called on both sides to pursue a peaceful resolution, warning against continued hostilities between the two countries.
“We absolutely do not want hostilities and war to continue between two Islamic countries,” he said, urging the parties to settle their differences “through dialogue and engagement”.
The Houthis belong to Iran’s “Axis of Resistance”, an alliance of groups opposed to Israel that includes Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Iraqi Shiite armed groups.
Tehran’s offer to facilitate dialogue signals its stated preference for negotiations to address the escalating tensions between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia.
