The Price of Being a Woman in a Judgmental World -By Fatima Usman

It is time for society to change. We must hold perpetrators accountable, amplify survivors’ voices, and stop judging women for circumstances beyond their control. True justice is not only about punishing the guilty it is about protecting the vulnerable and empowering women to live free from fear.

Woman and child

In every corner of our society, women face expectations that are impossible to meet expected to be strong, silent, and submissive, even in the face of abuse and injustice. Yet, when they speak up or assert their rights, society often turns a blind eye or blames them for their circumstances. The reality of women’s lives is filled with struggles that are largely invisible, misunderstood, or dismissed.

When a woman is assaulted physically, sexually, or emotionally the first question society often asks is not Who committed this crime but What did she do to provoke it This blame-shifting is deeply unjust, ignoring the fact that violence is never the victim’s fault. Survivors are left navigating fear, shame, and societal judgment, instead of receiving the care and justice they deserve.

Forceful marriages, physical torture, stalking, and emotional abuse are frequently dismissed as family matters. Women are pressured to endure silently, maintaining appearances while their rights and well-being are violated. In many cases, legal protections exist but are slow, ineffective, or influenced by patriarchal bias, leaving women trapped in cycles of abuse.

Even when women reclaim their lives becoming single mothers, seeking divorce, or breaking free from toxic relationships they are often judged harshly. Society labels them as failures, morally weak, or burdens, rather than recognizing the courage it takes to make these difficult decisions. Their resilience is criticized, while their suffering is minimized.

This glaring double standard is a reflection of a deeper societal flaw: a culture that values control over compassion, appearances over justice, and tradition over human rights. Women are forced to endure a world where their trauma is ignored, but their choices are scrutinized.

Women should not have to choose between safety, dignity, and acceptance. Until society learns to respect, support, and believe women, the cycle of abuse, silence, and stigma will continue unabated. It is time to stand with women not against them.
