Nigeria’s envoy Dalhatu formally begins UK diplomatic role after meeting King Charles III
Nigeria and the United Kingdom continue to strengthen bilateral ties following Dalhatu’s formal presentation of credentials to King Charles III.
Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Aminu Muhammad Dalhatu, has formally presented his Letters of Credence to King Charles III in a ceremony held at St James’s Palace.
The acceptance of the Letters of Credence officially validates Dalhatu’s appointment as Nigeria’s top diplomatic representative in the UK and marks the beginning of his tenure in London. He was accompanied by his wife during the ceremony.
Letters of Credence serve as formal diplomatic documents submitted by newly appointed ambassadors or high commissioners to the head of state of the receiving country. Their acceptance signals the official start of the envoy’s diplomatic duties.
Reacting to the development, the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce issued a congratulatory statement on its X account, describing the occasion as a major milestone in relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
“The Nigerian- British Chamber of Commerce extends its best wishes and Congratulations to Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu on the formal presentation of his Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Charles III, officially marking the commencement of his tenure as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom,” the chamber stated.
It added: “This important milestone comes at a defining moment in UK–Nigeria relations, following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent State Visit to Windsor Castle and amid growing bilateral trade and cooperation between the two nations.”
According to the chamber, Dalhatu’s formal accreditation is expected to further strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between both countries while expanding cooperation in trade, investment, and wider bilateral relations.
Nigeria and the United Kingdom share longstanding relations spanning commerce, education, security, and cultural exchange, with ongoing efforts to deepen collaboration through diplomatic channels.
