Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is back under the control of its loyal members, following its 10th Elective National Convention in Abuja.

Addressing party members at the convention, which was observed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Wike described the event as a turning point after months of internal crisis.

“Today is the birth of a united party, ready to move forward,” he said, adding that the gathering demonstrated the party’s renewed institutional strength.

Wike criticised party members who defected, saying their actions showed a lack of leadership and commitment.
“When crises emerge… they ran away. That tells you who can truly stand firm in difficult times,” he said.

He likened their actions to that of a former Labour Party presidential candidate, accusing him of failing to provide leadership during internal disputes.

Still, Wike extended an olive branch, urging defectors to return under a framework of unity and discipline.
“No one will be excluded; everyone will have an opportunity to serve,” he assured.

In his remarks, acting PDP chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed emphasised unity over personal ambition.
“We choose inclusiveness over exclusion. We choose unity over division,” he said.

Former governor Okezie Ikpeazu cautioned that unresolved internal conflicts could lead to the party’s collapse, stressing the urgency of reconciliation.

Similarly, Sule Lamido appealed to members who left the party to return, highlighting PDP’s historical role in promoting national unity after the June 12 crisis.
