FIFA has unveiled a new tradition for the 2026 World Cup, announcing that the tournament winners will receive championship rings for the first time in the competition’s history.

The victorious team in Sunday’s final between Spain and Argentina at New York New Jersey Stadium will add the rings to the World Cup trophy and gold medals traditionally awarded to the champions.

According to FIFA, the rings represent a historic first for its competitions, introducing a form of recognition long associated with major American sports.

A total of 2,026 individually numbered rings have been created to mark the 2026 tournament. Thirty of the rings will be presented to the World Cup-winning squad, while the remaining 1,996 will be made available worldwide as officially licensed merchandise.

Each ring will display the FIFA World Cup trophy on one side, while the opposite side will be personalised to identify the tournament champions. Every ring will also be individually numbered, tailored to its recipient and issued with a certificate of authenticity.

Immediately after the July 19 final, the winning captain and head coach will receive temporary championship rings during the celebrations.

The final versions of the 30 rings reserved for the champions will be custom-fitted before being officially presented to players and members of the coaching staff.

Spain and Argentina will battle for the 2026 FIFA World Cup title on Sunday, with the winners set to become the first team in the tournament’s history to celebrate their triumph with championship rings.
