2027 Election: Wike, APC Governors United Behind Tinubu, Morka Insists
Felix Morka addresses claims of a rift between Wike and APC governors, saying both sides share a commitment to President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
APC spokesperson Felix Morka has rejected claims of a political rift between Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, saying both sides remain united in their support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
Speaking on Arise Television’s News Day on Tuesday, Morka described reports of tension between Wike and the APC governors as a “false battle”, maintaining that their shared commitment to Tinubu’s 2027 ambition outweighs any perceived differences.
His comments followed Wike’s inclusion in the APC presidential campaign council.
“It was a false battle to begin with. I mean, I don’t think there was any real tension between those positions because they united in their extraordinary commitment to the re-election of the president,” he said.
Morka pointed out that the Progressive Governors Forum consists of governors elected under the APC, while Wike, who previously governed Rivers State, is a member of Tinubu’s cabinet and an outspoken supporter of the President.
He argued that their common political interest undermines suggestions that a significant disagreement exists between them.
The APC spokesperson further stated that the unveiling of the presidential campaign council had provided greater clarity regarding the individuals and groups involved in Tinubu’s re-election effort.
He cited the participation of governors who are not members of the APC as an indication that Tinubu is building support across party lines.
“Governors, who are not of the APC, now [are] front and centre, coordinating some of our activities in their respective jurisdictions,” Morka said.
Describing the arrangement as an emerging development in Nigeria’s political landscape, he said the President was bringing politicians from different parties together in pursuit of a common goal.
“What we’re witnessing today in our country is novel. It’s really a new dawn for democracy,” he stated.
Morka maintained that the collaboration was particularly noteworthy under Nigeria’s presidential system, where rival political parties are traditionally expected to compete rather than work together in electoral campaigns.
He argued that Tinubu was breaking down political barriers and assembling a coalition of political actors to advance his administration’s agenda and secure another term in office.
“We’re seeing a president who is transcending all of the divides and really nullifying what I call the politics of difference between these partisans and bringing them together under the same umbrella to pursue a common agenda for the good of the people,” he added.
