The Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum has dismissed a trending online report alleging a secret meeting in Saudi Arabia between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule.

The report claimed the meeting focused on financial backing and political strategy ahead of the 2027 elections.

Reacting in a statement on Saturday, the forum’s president, Akin Malaolu, warned against spreading what he described as an unverified narrative.

According to him, the report does not meet the minimum standards of credible journalism, as it is based entirely on unnamed sources and lacks supporting evidence.

“Allegations involving political alliances and financial commitments are serious matters… one would expect corroborative elements… At the moment, those elements appear to be missing,” he said.

Malaolu stressed that reports of such significance should include verifiable proof such as travel confirmations, documents, or multiple independent sources.

He cautioned that as political activities ahead of 2027 intensify, similar speculative stories may become more frequent.

“Anonymous sources have their place in journalism, but they cannot replace verification,” he stated, urging media organisations to clearly label unverified claims to avoid misleading the public.
