A Symphony of Ups and Downs: My First Year at FUK, by Miriam Dantala Yakubu

My journey at Federal University Kashere (FUK) was a wild rollercoaster ride of emotions, a symphony of ups and downs that harmonized into a beautiful melody of self-discovery. As I reflect on my first year, I’m flooded with memories of prayer, party, joy, gratitude, and a hint of sadness.

I arrived on campus as a wide-eyed fresher, eager to start a new chapter of my life as a university girl. But little did I know, the road ahead would be paved with challenges. I struggled to balance my academic, social, and personal life, often feeling like I was drowning in a sea of uncertainty. There were times I wanted to throw in the towel, pack my bags, and leave FUK behind. But something within me refused to give up.

That’s when my prayers and wishes magically came to life. I discovered my passion for Public Relations, event planning, and advertising. I made lifelong friends, formed meaningful relationships, and learned valuable lessons that shaped me into the person I am today.

But tragedy struck during my first semester in 300 level when I lost my beloved grandmother, my rock, my confidante. It was tough, but I found solace in my university family and friends who rallied around me, offering love and support. They reminded me that I wasn’t alone, and their kindness helped me heal.

Through my journey at FUK, I learned that university life is not just about grades or degrees; it’s about growing resilience, self-discovery, and embracing failure. It’s about learning from mistakes, finding your purpose, and building lasting relationships. If I could go back in time, I’d tell my younger self to cherish every moment – the good, the bad, the laughter, and the tears.

To all the students out there, remember that university life is a journey, not a destination. Embrace the ups and downs, learn from your mistakes, and never give up on your dreams. You are not alone, and every moment, good or bad, is a chance to grow and become the best version of yourself. So, enjoy every moment of your university journey, for it’s a wild ride that will shape you into a beautiful, strong, and resilient person.
