Ebola: US Introduces Mandatory DRC Travel Declaration for Air Passengers
New US Ebola travel rules require passengers to sign declarations confirming no recent travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The United States has introduced new travel requirements compelling air passengers heading to the country to declare whether they have visited the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where a deadly Ebola outbreak is centred.
The rules, which take effect on Tuesday, require anyone boarding an international flight to the US to sign a declaration stating that they have not been present in the DRC within the previous 21 days.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced the measure, describing it as part of efforts to prevent Ebola from entering the country through international air travel.
The latest Ebola outbreak in Africa has killed more than 5,300 people, most of them in the DRC, according to the continent’s top health agency.
Explaining the new requirement, the CDC said it was “a public health measure intended to reduce the risk of Ebola being introduced into the United States through air travel.”
