Four Osun APC Leaders Oppose Oyebamiji Campaign List, Demand Adeleke’s Role Restored
Osun APC leaders oppose a parallel presidential campaign list, citing alleged violations of party guidelines and demanding Adeleke’s leadership be recognised.
A fresh disagreement has emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State after four members of its State Executive Committee rejected a newly published presidential campaign committee list, insisting that it disregards party procedures and inclusiveness.
The executives argued that Governor Ademola Adeleke should continue to lead the presidential campaign in the state, citing an earlier directive reportedly assigning him responsibility for coordinating the campaign.
The controversy followed the release of a parallel campaign committee list by the Osun APC in a statement signed by its chairman on Monday. The list named the party’s governorship candidate, Oyebamiji, as Director-General, despite Adeleke’s earlier inauguration of a campaign committee.
In a joint statement, Wole Adunola, State Publicity Secretary; Adesola Ayangbile, Welfare Officer; Rasheed Adeniji, Assistant Organising Secretary; and Abiola Ololade, Ex-Officio, rejected the arrangement, saying it failed to meet established party guidelines.
“Following a careful review, we express our strong dissatisfaction with the composition of the list, which, in our view, does not adequately reflect established party guidelines, due process and the principle of inclusiveness required in constituting such an important campaign structure. We therefore reject the list in its present form.
“Of particular concern is the omission of several members of the State Working Committee who, according to the applicable guidelines, are expected to be statutory members of the council. The exclusion of these recognised party officials raises serious concerns about consultation, due process, and respect for the party’s established leadership structure,” they claimed.
The four officials further argued that the new committee list was inconsistent with an earlier presidential directive reportedly appointing Adeleke as Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council in Osun.
They said the governor had acted on the directive by inaugurating a broad-based team to mobilise support for the President’s re-election across the state.
“Furthermore, the composition of the list appears inconsistent with the earlier presidential directive reportedly naming Governor Ademola Adeleke as the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council in Osun State. Following that directive, the governor promptly inaugurated a broad-based campaign team to drive the presidential campaign across the state.
“It is, therefore, unclear why a different structure has now emerged without adequate clarification or alignment with the existing arrangement,” the statement reads.
The executives also questioned the functions of the newly released committee, stressing that campaigning for APC National Assembly candidates should remain separate from activities of the Presidential Campaign Council.
They called on the national leadership of the party, particularly its National Secretary, to intervene and resolve the disagreement, warning that the parallel arrangement could cause internal divisions and threaten the President’s re-election campaign in Osun.
“If the newly released list is intended to serve as a Parliamentary Campaign Council rather than the Presidential Campaign Council, its composition would be more understandable. This distinction must be clearly established to avoid confusion, duplication of responsibilities, and unnecessary friction within the party’s campaign structure.
“We consequently call for an immediate review of the published list, with appropriate consultations involving relevant stakeholders, including the National Secretary of our party, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, and the State Director-General, to ensure proper alignment and effective coordination,” the statement added.
