The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced May 12, 2026, for the inauguration of its newly elected state executives, in a move seen as an attempt by the David Mark-led faction to strengthen its grip on the party amid lingering internal tensions.

The planned inauguration signals a push to institutionalise leadership structures across the states, even as disputes, legal battles, and rival congresses continue to cast doubt on the cohesion of the process.

National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, announced the development in a statement on behalf of the party leadership.

“African Democratic Congress, ADC, congratulates all newly elected state executives… on the successful and peaceful conduct of their congresses.

“These elections… reflect the ADC’s enduring commitment to internal democracy, transparency and the rule of law.”

He reaffirmed that the inauguration would proceed as scheduled, subject to any changes by the National Working Committee.

“The formal inauguration… is scheduled to take place on May 12, 2026…”

Abdullahi also called for unity and commitment among incoming officials:

“The task ahead requires unity, discipline and a continued commitment to building a strong, credible alternative for the Nigerian people.”

The move comes at a time when the party is grappling with a widening leadership crisis, with reports of parallel congresses, suspensions, and court cases emerging from several states.

Nevertheless, the Mark-led leadership has dismissed concerns over legitimacy, insisting that the congresses it supervised were lawful.

By pushing ahead with the inauguration, the faction appears determined to stabilise the party’s structure and reinforce its position ahead of upcoming political contests, even as internal disagreements remain unresolved.
