Aisha Yesufu Quits ADC, Joins NDC to Contest FCT Senatorial Election

Aisha Yesufu announces defection from ADC to NDC, citing alignment with Peter Obi and political vision.

Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has announced her resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and her defection to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), where she also declared her ambition to run for the Federal Capital Territory senatorial seat in 2027.

She confirmed the development in a post on her X account on Wednesday, saying her decision was influenced by her political alignment with former presidential candidate Peter Obi, who recently also moved to the NDC.

“The next couple of days will define the future of this nation. This deeper understanding is why I resigned from the ADC to join the NDC as I follow the leadership of HE Peter Obi, who today embodies the hope and aspiration of a Nigeria that works,” she wrote.

According to her, her earlier support for Obi shaped her initial entry into the ADC, while her latest move reflects consistency in that support.

“When I give my word, I keep it. My decision to support HE Peter Obi first led me to the ADC. To continue to honour the promise I am joining the NDC,” she said.

Yesufu also confirmed she will contest the FCT senatorial election under the NDC platform.

“This time I am joining the NDC not just as a member but as one running for the FCT Senatorial seat,” she stated.

She described her departure from the ADC as orderly, thanking party members for their collaboration and service experience.

“I was fortunate to work with great and amazing people whose goal was a better country. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served as sub-committee chair, deputy committee chair, and secretary at various levels,” she added.
