Delta Police Rescue Abducted Woman, Arrest Eight Suspects in Abraka, by Faith Ogbotor
The suspects and recovered exhibits remain in police custody as investigations continue to determine their individual involvement in the reported attempted murder and other criminal activities.
The Delta State Police Command has rescued a woman who was abducted in Sapele and arrested eight suspects in a separate operation in Abraka, recovering three locally made pistols and suspected illicit drugs.
The woman was abducted at about 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, along Eko-Amukpe Road, Sapele, while she was attempting to drive into her residence.
According to the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the woman was ambushed by armed men who fired several shots into the air before taking her into a nearby bush.
Following the distress report, the Divisional Police Officer in Sapele mobilised patrol and surveillance teams to search for the victim. Local vigilantes also joined the operation, while expended AK-47 ammunition shells were recovered from the scene.
The search continued overnight into the morning of September 3, when the abductors reportedly abandoned the woman and fled. She was subsequently rescued unharmed and reunited with her family.
The police said efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend the fleeing abductors.
Meanwhile, in a separate operation in Abraka, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) arrested eight suspects on September 3 while acting on credible intelligence in connection with an ongoing investigation into a reported attempted murder.
The suspects were identified as Evans Adamda, Mamatime Micheal, Wale Morakinya, Anabono, Godspower, Theophilus Philip, Robinson Oghenewiro and Inoni Ejiroghene.
Police said the operation led to the recovery of three locally made pistols, Tramadol and other suspected illicit drugs.

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the operatives and local vigilantes for their efforts. He also urged residents to provide timely and crediible information to assist the police in combating kidnapping and other criminal activities across the state.
