The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on Nigeria’s military to take a more aggressive stance against terrorism following the recent bombings in Maiduguri, Borno State.

He made the statement on Wednesday evening while announcing Friday as Eid-el-Fitr, signaling the end of Ramadan.

His remarks come in response to Monday’s coordinated bomb attacks in Maiduguri that claimed 23 lives and injured over 100 people. The blasts were reported at a local market, near the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital gate, and at the Post Office flyover.

Reacting to the incident, the Sultan condemned the violence and urged security agencies to take decisive action against terrorist hideouts.

“Take the war to the terrorists where they are. Don’t wait for them to strike before defending or finding remedies. This you must do so that, as a nation of great people, we can have peace in our country,” he said.

He described the attacks as un-Islamic, insisting that such acts must not be associated with Islam. He also called on the government to demonstrate firm political will in ensuring the protection of all Nigerians.

“The government should summon the political willpower required to provide effective security and safety for all people, to stamp out these criminal elements across the country,” he added.

The Sultan further encouraged citizens to uphold peace, unity, and coexistence, stressing that a stable and secure environment is essential for national progress.
