EFCC Raids Lekki Short-Let Apartments, Detains More Than 20 Suspects
EFCC operatives raided a short-let apartment complex in Lekki, Lagos, arresting over 20 suspects as investigations into alleged financial crimes continue.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested over 20 suspects following a raid on a short-let apartment complex in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, in what is believed to be part of its intensified campaign against suspected financial crimes.
The operation took place in the early hours of Monday, July 27, at Mariton Apartments on Plot 30, QMB Road, Ikate, Lekki.
Confirming the operation, a senior EFCC official who requested anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media said the investigation remains active.
“The operation was intelligence-driven. Yes, a number of suspects were arrested and investigations are continuing. We are profiling those arrested and examining items recovered during the operation. Further details will be made public at the appropriate time,” the source said.
According to sources familiar with the raid, EFCC operatives searched multiple apartments within the complex, questioned occupants and arrested more than 20 individuals.
The sources also disclosed that investigators recovered materials considered relevant to the ongoing investigation.
The anti-graft agency has yet to reveal the identities of the suspects or specify the alleged offences being investigated.
While some residents claimed that certain apartments may have been used for suspected internet-related criminal activities, Vanguard noted that it could not independently verify those allegations. The EFCC has also not connected any individual or property owner to any criminal offence.
The operation has generated significant attention in the Lekki neighbourhood, with residents describing it as one of the most extensive EFCC raids carried out in the area in recent months.
Residents further observed that the apartment complex has experienced a decline in patronage since the operation.
Investigators are continuing to analyse items recovered during the raid and screen those arrested to determine whether charges will be filed.
At the time of filing this report, no formal charges had been announced, while the EFCC said investigations were ongoing.
