FA Slaps Fulham Boss Arbeloa with £25,000 Fine Over Man Utd Referee Outburst
The FA has fined Fulham manager Alvaro Arbeloa £25,000 and issued a warning over comments questioning match officials after a 1-1 draw with Man Utd.
Fulham manager Alvaro Arbeloa has been sanctioned by the Football Association after questioning the impartiality of match officials following his side’s Premier League draw against Manchester United.
The Spanish tactician must pay a £25,000 ($33,000) fine and has received a warning after claiming that officials would “not let Manchester United lose”.
The comments followed Fulham’s 1-1 draw with United at Craven Cottage in September, a game in which the visitors rescued a point through Matheus Cunha’s 89th-minute equaliser.
Following an investigation into the post-match remarks, the FA charged Arbeloa with improper conduct for comments deemed to suggest bias and cast doubt on the integrity of a match official.
The Fulham manager admitted the charge, resulting in the financial penalty and an official warning.
Explaining its decision, the FA stated that Arbeloa had “acted in an improper manner by making comments in a post-match interview that imply bias and/or question the integrity of a match official”.
The development adds to Fulham’s difficulties this season, with the club enduring a poor start to their Premier League campaign.
After six matches, the London side have managed only two points and currently occupy the bottom position in the league table.
