The Federal Government has called for strict compliance with the official title of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following what it described as frequent errors in the way the president is addressed in public communications.

This was contained in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, through his media aide, Yomi Odunuga.

Akume said the clarification became necessary after an incorrect appellation of the president appeared in a publication by a national daily on May 7, 2026.

“For the record, the correct and official appellation is His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

The SGF advised media organisations and other bodies to confirm official titles before publication to prevent avoidable errors from appearing in print and online platforms.

He also noted that verifications could be made through the office’s official social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram and X, including its email channels.
