Fears of a wider war are rising after France and its Western allies pledged support for Gulf states amid escalating missile and drone attacks linked to the Iran–Israel–United States confrontation.

France’s Foreign Minister, Jean-Noël Barrot, reaffirmed Paris’ solidarity with countries affected by Iranian strikes.

“To allied countries deliberately targeted by the missiles and drones of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards—Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Iraq, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and Jordan—France expresses its full support and complete solidarity,” he said.

Barrot stressed that France is prepared to act if necessary. “It stands ready, in accordance with the agreements that bind it to its partners and with the principle of collective self-defence provided under international law, to take part in their defence.”

The latest developments follow coordinated strikes by Israel and the United States on Iranian targets, triggering retaliatory attacks across multiple countries. France, Germany and the United Kingdom warned Iran against further escalation and signaled readiness to defend their interests.

“Iran’s reckless attacks have targeted our close allies and threaten our personnel and civilians across the region. We will take steps to defend our interests and those of our allies, potentially through proportionate action to destroy Iran’s capability to fire missiles and drones at their source,” the allies said.

A reported strike occurred near the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait City, while a pro-Iran militia in Iraq claimed a drone attack on American forces at Baghdad Airport. Cyprus confirmed minor damage to a British airbase following a drone strike.

Israel and the United States have continued targeting Iranian military sites. President Donald Trump stated that nine Iranian warships were destroyed, with B-2 bombers used in operations.

In parallel, Hezbollah fired rockets from Lebanon into Israel, prompting retaliatory Israeli strikes that reportedly killed 31 people and injured 149. Iranian officials said over 200 people have died since hostilities began.

Missile strikes also hit Jerusalem and a synagogue in Beit Shemesh, killing nine people and injuring 28. Israel’s death toll has climbed to 11, according to rescue services. President Trump warned: “Sadly, there will likely be more before it ends.”

The World Health Organization has appealed for the protection of civilians and healthcare facilities.

As military actions spread across borders and major powers affirm their backing for regional allies, concerns are mounting that the confrontation could escalate into a full-scale regional war.
