Haaland - Man city

Erling Haaland’s second-half winner secured a crucial 2-1 victory for Manchester City over Arsenal on Sunday, delivering what could prove a defining blow in the Premier League title race.

Pep Guardiola’s side are now just three points off the top with a game in hand, piling pressure on Arsenal, whose bid to end a 22-year wait for the title is showing signs of collapse.

The defeat extends a worrying run for Mikel Arteta’s team, who have won only once in their last six matches in all competitions, including four consecutive domestic losses following their League Cup final defeat to City.

City could climb to the summit with a victory over Burnley on Wednesday, underlining the shift in momentum.

Arsenal started brightly but were undone by a moment of brilliance from Rayan Cherki, who weaved past defenders before finishing calmly to open the scoring.

The visitors responded almost immediately, thanks to a costly error from Gianluigi Donnarumma. The goalkeeper hesitated under pressure, allowing Kai Havertz to block his clearance into the net for an equaliser.

Despite that setback, City regained control after the break. Haaland struck in the 65th minute, muscling past Gabriel Magalhaes to convert Nico O’Reilly’s cross for his 34th goal of the campaign.

Arsenal’s frustration grew as they hit the woodwork twice and were denied by a combination of poor finishing and resolute defending. Donnarumma also made amends with a key save to stop Havertz, while Martin Odegaard saw a follow-up cleared off the line.

Late drama saw Havertz miss a golden opportunity to level, heading over from Leandro Trossard’s cross deep into stoppage time.

Reflecting the tension, Gabriel Magalhaes escaped with a yellow card after an apparent headbutt on Haaland.

Arteta was left in disbelief on the touchline as his side failed to capitalise on their chances, leaving their title ambitions hanging by a thread despite a seemingly favourable run of fixtures ahead.
