Iyabo Obasanjo has withdrawn from the race for Ogun State governor following the emergence of Senator Solomon Adeola as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.

The development follows a party meeting held at the APC secretariat in Abeokuta, where Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the Senate, was endorsed as the party’s preferred candidate.

Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, confirmed her withdrawal in a personally signed statement issued on Monday.

“I congratulate him and wish him every success. I also thank the state and national leaders of our great party for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process,” she said.
“Based on these developments, I have decided to suspend my gubernatorial aspiration.”

She added a message of appreciation to her supporters across the state.

“To my supporters across Ogun State, I am deeply grateful for your calm, steadfast support and unwavering trust throughout this journey. Together, we move forward with patience, strength and hope.”

The move effectively consolidates party backing behind Adeola as the APC prepares for the 2027 governorship contest in Ogun State.
