Immediate past Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has accepted calls from political leaders in Delta North Senatorial District to seek the APC Senate ticket for the 2027 general elections.

The decision followed a high-level political mobilisation led by Delta State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, and supported by over 50 leaders from across the nine local government areas of the district.

The delegation had earlier met at the deputy governor’s lodge before proceeding to Okowa’s residence in Asaba, where they formally urged him to return to the Senate, citing dissatisfaction with current representation.

A motion to endorse his candidacy was moved by former House Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, and seconded by serving lawmaker, Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, and was unanimously adopted.

At his residence, Okowa, visibly surprised by the scale of support, accepted the request.

“I heed your call. I feel very loved and honoured, and I have no choice than to accept.”

He referenced his political history and previous victories with backing from the Anioma people.

“As I accept your request for me to run for the Senate seat, we’ll run it together, and win together. I will not disappoint you.”

He further described the appeal as a forward-looking political statement.

“The statement all of you have just made here is not for today; it’s a statement for the future of our people…”

Deputy Governor Onyeme described the move as a collective political project, assuring Okowa of full support from stakeholders across the senatorial district.

The development signals early realignment and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections, as political actors in Delta North consolidate around a familiar figure for the senatorial contest.
