Tensions have emerged over comments by former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, as the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) pushed back against his claim that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, was planning to depose the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja.

The council described the allegation as unfounded and warned that such statements risk politicising traditional institutions and destabilising the peace in Ibadanland.

In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Kola Olomide, the CCII quoted its President-General, Chief Ajeniyi Ajewole, as condemning Fayose’s remarks.

Ajewole said the comments were misleading and capable of inciting tension in a city known for its respect for tradition.

He emphasised that the process surrounding the Olubadan stool is well established and cannot be altered through political narratives.

“Fayose should not inflame the polity in Ibadan and Oyo State in general with reckless and unverified statements.”

“We advise him to keep his mouth shut and take his divisive politics elsewhere rather than dragging Ibadan into unnecessary controversy.”

He also defended Governor Makinde, describing him as committed to protecting the revered institution.

“Our own Governor Seyi Makinde is a true son of Ibadanland who would not do anything to undermine the institution of Olubadan…”

The council further maintained that Fayose’s вмешательство was unwarranted, noting that he holds no stake in Ibadan’s traditional or political affairs.

Ajewole concluded by calling on political actors to avoid statements capable of undermining public trust, stressing that Ibadan people remain united in safeguarding their heritage and institutions.
