Waste management in Nigeria

A waste management system encompasses the organized processes that organization utilize to handle, reduce, reuse and prevent waste.
Also referred to as waste disposal, it entails implementing comprehensive strategies to efficiently mange waste from it origin to final disposal.

Waste management presents a significant opportunity in the Nigerian market. Currently, the country grapples with waste management issues, including inadequate disposal infrastructure and a growing problem of plastic waste. However, these challenges create opportunities for business to offer innovation solutions. Companies could develop recycling technologies, waste-to-energy facilities, or other methods to convert waste into valuable resources by addressing waste management challenges, businesses can not only enhance the environment but also generate revenue and employment opportunities

THERE ARE SEVERAL AVENUES THROUGH WHICH WASTE CAN BE TURNED INTO OPPORTUNITIES

1. Waste into energy: waste can serve as fuel to generate electricity or heat, reducing reliance on traditional energy sources.
2. Organic waste: food waste and other organic materials can be composted to create valuable soil amendments for agriculture.
3. Recycling: plastic and paper waste can be collected, sorted, and recycled into new products which will reduce the demand for raw materials

Proper waste management has become a global concern due to it economic, environmental, social, and sustainability implications. Strategies have been implemented worldwide to develop clean energy, improve industrial resource efficiency, and promote material recycling and reuse
