Osun Governor Adeleke Challenges EFCC Over Frozen State Account
Adeleke heads to the Federal High Court to challenge the EFCC’s freezing of an Osun State Government account reportedly used for workers’ salaries.
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced plans to challenge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in court over its decision to freeze a state government bank account.
The governor gave the directive after the anti-graft agency placed a “Post No Debit” restriction on an Osun State Government account held with First Bank, reportedly used for the payment of workers’ salaries.
Addressing journalists in Osogbo, Adeleke questioned the basis for the action and called on EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede to publicly explain the decision.
“All I ask is for the EFCC chairman to explain to the good people of Osun State and Nigerians in general why he froze the Osun State Government account and provide evidence to support whatever reason he presents,” he said.
The governor further stated:
“This and other actions being taken against Osun State are turning our democracy into a huge joke.”
Adeleke disclosed that he had directed the state’s Attorney-General to institute legal proceedings at the Federal High Court, Osogbo, to challenge the freezing of the account.
He described the development as a matter of public concern and urged Nigerians, particularly residents of Osun State, to follow the issue closely.
The EFCC had not issued any official explanation for the restriction at the time this report was filed.
