Osun Governorship Poll: Road Safety Corps Mobilises 2,500 Personnel for Election

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has mobilised 2,500 personnel and 50 operational vehicles to Osun State as part of measures to ensure effective traffic management and emergency response during Saturday’s governorship election.

The election is scheduled to hold on August 15, 2026, with the FRSC deployment covering all three senatorial districts and operational areas across the state.

The fleet deployed for the exercise includes seven heavy-duty tow trucks and six ambulances to support rescue operations and maintain safe and orderly traffic throughout the election period.

The Corps Public Education Officer, Deputy Corps Commander Osondu Ohaeri, disclosed the deployment in a press statement issued on Friday.

The statement said the personnel and equipment would help maintain seamless traffic movement, respond quickly to emergencies and enforce the restriction of movement order during the election.

Of the 2,500 personnel deployed, 2,300 are from the Osun Sector Command, while 50 personnel each were drawn from the Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo and Ogun Sector Commands.

According to the FRSC, rescue and operational assets have been strategically positioned in different parts of the state to ensure the safe movement of election officials, accredited observers, security operatives and other road users.

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed said the deployment demonstrated the FRSC’s commitment to contributing to a peaceful, safe and credible electoral process while operating within its statutory road safety and traffic management mandate.

He added that the officers would discharge their responsibilities professionally and impartially, while maintaining neutrality, discipline and respect for human rights.

The Corps Marshal said the FRSC would also work closely with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) and other relevant security and electoral agencies.

“Our mandate is clear: to ensure that the roads remain safe, orderly and accessible within the framework of the electoral security arrangements. We will be firm, professional and impartial in the discharge of our responsibilities,” Mohammed said.

As part of preparations, the FRSC said it would organise a Train-the-Trainer Workshop for officers participating in election duties. The programme will include representatives from the FRSC, Nigeria Police Force, INEC, DSS and NSCDC.

The Corps further disclosed that vehicles supplied by fleet operators for transporting electoral materials would undergo inspection and certification to confirm their roadworthiness and compliance with safety requirements.

Mohammed warned that the restriction of movement order would be strictly enforced across designated areas on election day.

The FRSC said enforcement vehicles would be deployed from 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, while personnel would occupy strategic locations throughout Osun State.

The Corps advised motorists, transport operators and other road users to make necessary travel arrangements ahead of the election, comply with traffic rules and stay away from restricted routes.

FRSC operatives will also conduct traffic control, crowd management, obstruction clearance and rescue operations before, during and after the election, while working in coordination with other security agencies.
