Shettima submits Tinubu’s APC forms, says ‘Nigeria has crossed the river’
Shettima said Nigeria is on the path to recovery as Tinubu formally entered the APC presidential primary contest.
Vice President Kashim Shettima has formally returned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential nomination and expression of interest forms, confirming his participation in the All Progressives Congress primary race for the 2027 election.
The forms were submitted yesterday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, where party leaders praised the administration’s record and called for continuity.
Tinubu’s submission came a day after the APC National Working Committee waived the screening process for the president, arguing that he had already secured broad endorsements from party stakeholders.
According to the APC, Tinubu had been unanimously endorsed at the party’s National Summit by the Progressive Governors Forum, members of the National Assembly and other organs of the ruling party.
Addressing party members and supporters, Shettima said Tinubu had successfully stabilised Nigeria despite inheriting serious economic challenges.
“The President has delivered on the mandate of stability and national revival. The storms of the past years have not diminished him. They have made a party hero out of him,” he said.
The vice president stated that Nigeria’s foreign reserves were around $33.99 billion when Tinubu assumed office, insisting the administration took difficult but necessary measures to restore confidence in the economy.
“We have crossed the river. We are out of the dark tunnel. Nigeria is on a path to recovery and growth,” Shettima declared.
APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda said the waiver of Tinubu’s screening was meant to preserve the integrity of the endorsement already granted by the party’s National Executive Committee.
“All of us seated here who are members of NEC are bound by the decision we made last year as a commitment to Mr President,” he stated.
Yilwatda also cited major infrastructure projects of the administration, including railway expansion, the AKK gas pipeline and the Badagry-Sokoto highway corridor.
At the same event, the 31 APC governors declared support for a consensus presidential ticket for Tinubu.
Speaking on behalf of the governors, Hope Uzodimma said APC-controlled states were fully committed to securing Tinubu’s re-election by campaigning on the achievements of his administration.
