I’m highly pleased to write this article for several reasons, but above all is to tell the readers about the significant influence and role Prof, Umaru A Pate the communication expert and also the vice chancellor Federal University of Kashere, Gombe state, has exert in my life. Thus not only me almost everybody who associates with him in one way or the other can attest my own views.

Umaru Pate an erudite scholar of communication and also the ‘’Kaigama’’ of Adamawa who coincidentally we’ve came from same state begins to have impacts in my life personally and also as a mass communication student in the late 2017, when I went for my for my internship at Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation (ABC YOLA) in that very year one of my cousin brother who is also a journalist working with V.O.N asked whether I know Prof Pate, and to his greatest supprise I told no! then he said ‘’you are pursuing a career in journalism field, so you need know more about ‘Pate’ if not your career as a potential journalist would considered partial” then he laughed.

As curios as I’m I begins to search about our father, mentor as well as a role model in person of Prof, Umaru Pate to my greatest amazement I was bombarded with the torrents of information about our Pate, and I can say without much of exaggeration Pate’s profile was the longest profile that I have ever read in my life. Therefore found his brief biography as one most interesting to me as a student of communication.

However, when I discovered that he had been with Bayero University Kano (BUK) I made a promised that I must applied (BUK) in my first choice whenever JAMB open its portal that was 2019/2020 in order to meet with my humble Prof, Pate and may be joins the train of his wider products across Nigeria. Unfortunately (BUK) did not admit me and my dream to learn under Pate had been shattered completely.

Nevertheless, the following year I applied UNIMAID, but thinking that in as much as I remained alive I will meet my modest Prof at postgraduate level willingly in as much as he is still in (BUK)

Moreover, in what occurred to me like dream in 2021, I was one’s opened my phone and logged into my Facebook and I came across a story which says ‘’Federal University Of Kashere appointed Prof Umaru A Pate, as the 3rd substantive Vice Chancellor’’. And all I said was all praise is for Allah. And definitely I can’t managed to my own immense delight.

Notwithstanding, without any hesitation I went to JAMB Office and made a change of institution from (UNIMAID) To (FUK) so as to accomplish my dream of learning under my mentor.

Likewise Prof, Umar Pate is a kind that everybody who wants to excel in the profession of journalism would like to relate with and one of the most interesting aspect about Pate he is always like see his students doing well and he also hate hopelessness. Bear with me that Pate’s products in the field of journalism cut across the Nigerian landscape.

Certainly I can say I don’t know a man who lives by the principle of given one’s best like Prof Pate, and definitely he always teach me how to get things done effectively and efficiently.

A lot has been said and written about Pate few amongst them I heard them during the maiden MACOASA week recently organised by the (FUK) students where so many dignitaries and veteran journalist were invited among them were season journalist ‘Eugenia Abu’ Solace Base Editor ‘Abdulateef Abubakar Jos’ as well as ‘Ibrahim Isa’ formely of BBC Hausa among many others in which Ibrahim Isa describe Prof Umar Pate, as a ‘’Golden fish that cannot be hidden inside water’’.

Where Mrs. Eugenia Abu and Abdulateef Abubkar jos describes him as a progressive leader.

To sum it up Prof Umar Pate is like all time football best player Lionell Messi whoever had him has everything and whoever miss him missed a gigantic pillar. Lastly the tremendous influence he put forth in my life will continue to spill over in me.
