UMUAHIA — Chief Henry Ikoh, a former minister and APC governorship aspirant in Abia State, has urged his supporters to set aside their grievances over the party’s governorship primary and focus on securing victory for President Bola Tinubu and all APC candidates in the 2027 elections.

Ikoh, the Abia Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, spoke during a thank-you meeting with his supporters in Umuahia at the weekend.

The meeting was organised to appreciate those who supported his governorship bid.

Reflecting on the outcome of the APC primary, Ikoh described the process as a “selection instead of election”, noting the disappointment that followed the emergence of Chief Eric Opah as the party’s governorship candidate.

He nevertheless called for unity and loyalty, urging his supporters to put the interest of the APC ahead of personal political ambitions.

“My core mandate is to deliver Mr President and all APC candidates,” Ikoh said.

He urged the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Ozurumba Movement, Old Aba Division and other groups that supported his campaign to remain firmly behind the APC.

Ikoh said strengthening the APC’s ties with the Federal Government was necessary if Abia was to benefit more from federal development initiatives.

On the economy, the former minister acknowledged the hardship being experienced by Nigerians but expressed optimism about the Tinubu administration’s reforms. He claimed that the naira had stabilised and that states were no longer dependent on borrowing to pay salaries.

He also appealed for patience, saying the ongoing reforms would ultimately move Nigeria from a consumption-driven economy to one focused on production.

Reacting to suggestions that the Labour Party would win Abia in 2027, Ikoh said such claims represented the personal views of those making them.

“That is their personal opinion. As a responsible APC man, you have to be APC all the way.

“I am APC in the morning, afternoon and night. We must deliver APC in Abia,” he declared.

Meanwhile, APC State Organising Secretary and Isuikwuato Local Government Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Mr Emeka Okoroafor, praised Ikoh for staying loyal to the party despite the disagreements surrounding the primary.

Okoroafor claimed that 13 out of the 18 members of the State Working Committee supported Ikoh during the primary. He also commended him for choosing to work for the party despite the outcome.

However, he alleged that some APC leaders were playing “double games” by working against the party’s candidates.

The State Coordinator of the Ozurumba Movement, Dr Paul Uzuegbu, also pledged the group’s continued support for the APC.

“Our leader has spoken. Politics is about loyalty. We will follow his footsteps,” Uzuegbu said.
