Police have arrested alleged PFIPC Director-General Adeniyi Adeyemi in Osun State after a Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench warrant over his failure to appear for arraignment.

Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-acclaimed Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), has been arrested by security operatives after a Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

Adeyemi was taken into custody on Tuesday at his hideout in Osun State, hours after Justice Mohammed Umar ordered his arrest over his failure to appear before the court for arraignment.

The Nigeria Police Force confirmed that operatives of the Force Intelligence Department/Intelligence Response Team (FID/IRT) carried out the arrest in Osun State.

While authorities have yet to release full details of the operation, sources indicated that Adeyemi would be moved to the Force Headquarters in Abuja to face further legal proceedings.

Justice Umar issued the bench warrant after the defendant repeatedly failed to attend court despite several adjournments.

At the hearing, defence counsel Genesis Francis told the court he was unable to persuade his client to appear, explaining that Adeyemi had expressed concerns about his safety.

Francis said his client had outlined those concerns in an open letter to President Bola Tinubu, arguing that the case had attracted widespread public attention.

However, prosecuting counsel Wisdom Madaki maintained that the trial had been unnecessarily delayed because of Adeyemi’s repeated absence from court. He asked the court to issue a warrant for the defendant’s arrest under Section 394 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.

In his ruling, Justice Umar noted that the charges were filed on November 27, 2025, and that proceedings commenced on December 4, 2025. He observed that Adeyemi had appeared in court only once before failing to attend subsequent hearings.

The court consequently ordered his arrest and adjourned the case until September 30.
