A fresh rift has emerged within the Bauchi State caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over attempts to bring Governor Bala Mohammed into the party.

The division became evident at a caucus meeting held in Abuja, where members debated the implications of the governor’s potential move.

Speaking at a press briefing, acting secretary of the caucus, Rep. Dabo Ismail, announced the formation of a high-powered committee to manage the situation.

He said the committee is tasked with outlining the caucus’ demands, engaging relevant stakeholders, participating in negotiations over possible defections from the PDP-led government, and reporting progress to members.

Ismail maintained that although the governor is welcome in the APC, the party’s national leadership must involve state stakeholders in any discussions.

He described the approach as a “democratic mechanism” intended to balance differing opinions while preserving unity within the party.

Reacting after the meeting, the chairman of the Bauchi APC caucus and senator representing Bauchi North, Sama’ila Dahuwa, criticized the national leadership for failing to consult local stakeholders.

He warned that bypassing established structures threatens internal democracy and inclusiveness.

“The omission is unacceptable,” the caucus declared, warning against unilateral decisions on matters of such importance.

Dahuwa added that the newly formed committee includes top-ranking party members, among them a serving minister, former governors, and two senators.

The caucus said it would formally present its position to the national leadership, insisting on strict adherence to due process.

Members also cautioned that mishandling the integration of new entrants could alienate loyal supporters and weaken party unity.

Governor Mohammed had earlier indicated, on March 31, that he was considering a move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as political alignments continue to shift ahead of upcoming elections.

The situation gained momentum after APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda and Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf visited the Bauchi Government House for a private meeting.
