The Dangote Group has strongly refuted a report alleging that its President, Aliko Dangote, had fallen out with Tony Elumelu and financed his refinery project through personal borrowing, calling the claims false and misleading.

In a statement by Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, the company said the publication misrepresented both Dangote’s personal position and that of the organisation.

“The Dangote Group has become aware of a publication titled ‘Aliko Dangote Speaks Out on Why He Distanced Himself from Tony Elumelu,’ which is false, malicious, and baseless,” the statement said, adding that no such remarks were ever made.

The Group also dismissed assertions that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals project was funded through loans from friends.

“The Group categorically rejects claims that the development of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals was financed through personal borrowing from friends. These assertions are wholly inaccurate and constitute a deliberate misrepresentation of facts,” it stated.

It stressed that Aliko Dangote does not finance projects through personal borrowing from friends and challenged those making such allegations to provide proof.

“As a matter of principle, Aliko Dangote neither finances his projects through personal borrowing from friends nor engages in lending arrangements of that nature,” it added.

The statement further denied any breakdown in relationship between Dangote and Tony Elumelu, describing their ties as cordial and longstanding.

“Equally false are suggestions of any estrangement between Aliko Dangote and Mr Tony Elumelu, with whom he maintains a longstanding and cordial relationship,” it said.

The company also condemned what it described as increasing misuse of Dangote’s name and image in AI-generated ads and fabricated content, warning that such actions could amount to fraud.

It said it would pursue legal action where necessary to protect its reputation and leadership.

“Dangote Group remains committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity while driving industrialisation and economic self-sufficiency across Africa,” the statement added.
