Donald Trump Skeptical of Iran Peace Offer, Leaves Door Open for Military Response
Trump casts doubt on Iran’s new peace plan as tensions remain high and the US keeps military options open.
Donald Trump has cast doubt on a new peace proposal submitted by Iran, saying it is unlikely to be accepted even as he confirmed it will be reviewed.
The proposal, reportedly a 14-point plan delivered through Pakistan, seeks to end the ongoing conflict and introduce new arrangements for the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian outlets Tasnim News Agency and Fars News Agency.
Negotiations between the two countries have been deadlocked since an April 8 ceasefire, following failed talks to end the war.
Trump said on Truth Social:
“I will soon be reviewing the plan… but can’t imagine that it would be acceptable,” citing Iran’s past actions.
He also warned that further action remains on the table:
“If they misbehave… it’s a possibility that could happen.”
War of Words Intensifies
Iranian military official Mohammad Jafar Asadi said renewed conflict is “likely,” accusing the US of not honouring agreements.
Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi added that Tehran is ready for either diplomacy or confrontation, placing responsibility on Washington.
Iran also accused the US of hypocrisy over nuclear issues, stressing there are no legal limits on uranium enrichment under international supervision.
Global Impact and Ongoing Clashes
Iran’s control of the Strait of Hormuz continues to disrupt global energy supplies, while US counter-measures target Iranian ports. Oil prices have risen sharply since the conflict began.
In Lebanon, Israeli strikes on Hezbollah positions persisted despite a truce, with casualties reported.
At home, Iran faces mounting economic pressure, with inflation above 50 percent and declining oil exports. Residents say many are relying on savings to cope with the crisis.
