Ekiti State First Lady, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, has pledged to strengthen the campaign against sexual harassment in tertiary institutions, insisting that individuals found guilty of such offences must face appropriate sanctions.

Speaking while hosting the management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, in Ado-Ekiti, Dr. Oyebanji said protecting students and preserving the credibility of higher institutions remain top priorities.

She warned against treating cases of sexual harassment with leniency, stressing that a failure to hold offenders accountable could lead to repeated violations.

As part of efforts to address the challenge, the First Lady announced plans to organise a gender summit across the state and undertake advocacy visits to tertiary institutions.

She explained that the programme would focus on raising awareness among students, lecturers and other stakeholders on gender rights, moral values and the legal consequences of sexual harassment and other gender-based offences.

In his remarks, Prof. Ogunwole praised Dr. Oyebanji for her contributions to women and child development and commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration for promoting peace, stability and purposeful governance.

He also lauded the Widows, Aged and Orphans Hope (WAOH) Foundation for its continued support for vulnerable women and girls through welfare initiatives and advocacy for girl-child education.

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that FUOYE’s 11th Convocation Ceremony is scheduled for February 2027, adding that the university Senate has selected Dr. Oyebanji as the Convocation Lecturer in recognition of her humanitarian work, commitment to women empowerment and contributions to social development.
