Iran suffered a fresh setback Wednesday with the killing of intelligence minister Esmail Khatib, while the country’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, promised vengeance for the deaths of top security officials.

“Every drop of spilled blood comes at a price, and the criminal murderers of these martyrs will soon have to pay it,” the supreme leader said in a message following funeral processions for Ali Larijani and others killed in strikes, including Gholamreza Soleimani.

Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz confirmed the country has targeted senior Iranian officials: “We will continue to thwart them and to hunt them all down.”

US intelligence chief Tulsi Gabbard said Iran’s government remains intact but degraded, highlighting that nuclear enrichment efforts have not resumed since last year’s Operation Midnight Hammer.

The violence has spread beyond Iran. Iranian missiles struck near Tel Aviv, killing civilians, while Israeli and US strikes targeted Dorud and other towns. In Lebanon, residents fled southern cities like Sidon as airstrikes intensified.

The war has also disrupted global energy markets, with Iran threatening Gulf energy infrastructure and Qatar confirming damage to a key gas facility. Despite heavy losses, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have launched missile retaliations and warned of further attacks.
