Osun Poll: ‘We’re Contesting to Win’ — Aregbesola Denies ADC Alliance Rumour

The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has rejected reports that the party’s governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Dr. Najeem Folasayo Salaam, has stepped down from the August 15 election or entered into an alliance with another political party.

Aregbesola described the reports as “false, unfounded and misleading” and urged the public to disregard them.

He made the clarification on Saturday during a solidarity rally held in Ejigbo to celebrate Salaam’s 61st birthday and demonstrate support for his governorship bid.

According to Aregbesola, the ADC has no intention of abandoning the governorship contest, insisting that the party remains committed to winning the election.

He said the party had established a formidable political structure rooted in progressive principles and traditions and therefore had no reason to compromise its electoral ambition.

“The ADC is too strong and too well-positioned to negotiate away its political ambition or contemplate an alliance with any other political party. We have built a formidable structure anchored on progressive principles, ideals and traditions,” Aregbesola said.

He added: “We have absolute faith in God and confidence in the support of the people. We are contesting this election to win.”

‘Salaam is a leader worthy of trust’

Aregbesola further endorsed Salaam, highlighting what he described as the candidate’s integrity, humility, exemplary character and concern for humanity.

He urged Osun voters to support the ADC candidate, expressing confidence that a Salaam-led government would promote progressive ideals and restore public confidence in democratic governance.

According to him, the party’s candidate has the qualities required to provide purposeful leadership to the state.

Salaam renews campaign commitment

Salaam, who was the focus of the birthday celebration, thanked his supporters, political associates and well-wishers for standing by him throughout his political journey.

He said the solidarity shown at the event was deeply appreciated and promised to repay the confidence of his supporters through dedicated service to humanity.

The ADC candidate also reaffirmed his commitment to his manifesto, describing it as a solemn promise to the people of Osun.

He appealed to voters to back the ADC at the August 15 poll, promising an administration focused on purposeful, inclusive and people-centred governance.

The rally drew a large crowd of ADC supporters, political associates, community leaders and well-wishers, who gathered in Ejigbo to mark Salaam’s 61st birthday and reaffirm their support for his governorship campaign.
