Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has denied allegations circulating on social media and other platforms suggesting he supports banditry in Nigeria.

In a press statement issued in Kaduna on Saturday, he described the claims as false, doctored, and driven by ethnic or sectional agendas.

Gumi said several of his public interviews, lectures, and remarks on insecurity had been misrepresented by online publishers in search of sensational headlines and traffic.

“I hereby state unequivocally that any video clip, written statement, or message attributed to me, whether directly or by innuendo suggesting support for, justification of, protection of, or advocacy for banditry in Nigeria or anywhere else, does not emanate from me,” he stated.

He reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria, describing the country as one with significant potential.

The cleric urged Nigerians, media outlets, and authorities to disregard misleading content attributed to him.

He further warned that continued dissemination of false claims would attract legal action.

Gumi expressed hope that the country would overcome its insecurity challenges and that victims of violence would find relief through national and international efforts.

He also said insecurity in Nigeria is fueled by ignorance, poverty, and injustice, calling for deeper and lasting solutions.
